I hope everyone is remaining sane and calm during these crazy times. It's been a while since I last posted because life has gotten pretty hectic since March. It's funny to think that only a couple of months ago Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down from their duties as royals was the most shocking event. In March, quarantine was a new idea we were all dipping our toes into, now, in June, it's become that song you hear whenever you turn on the radio and can't get out of your head. Since I last posted, I was in the play, Imaginary Invalid, on zoom, wrote three articles for my school newspaper, typed some papers, did some math tests, and am about to finish end of the year projects. A lot has happened to our country as well. States have started to reopen stores, masks are now a good idea (for a period of time we all thought they were kinda unnecessary), and there has been a cultural shift in perception of race relations in America as a result of the horrific murders of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. These unjust deaths have catapulted us into a cultural upheaval against the oppressive systems that have stifled the voices and targeted people of color in our country. Black lives Matter protests and marches are dividing the nation; no one can be neutral and everyone must play a role in redefining justice more than ever before. It is scary, overwhelming, and confusing when there is change and violence especially during a worldwide pandemic. If there's something humanity has been forced to do during 2020, it's to learn to sit with the discomfort of reality. This is an uncomfortable time and no one knows what to say or how to be and eating food is a way for people to reconnect with themselves. A delicious bite of chip and hummus will give you the energy to keep marching for social change. One small bite of this hummus is one big bite for justice.

Cooking time:

- around 2 minutes

Ingredients:

- One can of chickpeas (15 oz)

- Lemon Juice

- 2 cloves of garlic

- 1 tablespoon olive oil

- Cilantro (1/2 cup)

- Salt and paper to taste

- Spice lover? Add some jalapeño!

Equipment:

- food processor

- spoon

- bowl

Instructions:

- Put all ingredients in a food processor until the consistency you like

(If you link chunky hummus, mix it less, and vice versa)

- Top with cilantro and/or jalapeño

My family adds hummus to everything! Salad dressing, sandwiches, vegetables, crackers, you name it! It's a great snack after zoom classes/meetings or an addition to your Lunch.

Bask in the glory of your creation!
